Removing Dash

I plan on removing the complete dash to windshield, has anyone ever done this and what problems will have? There are two bolts on the bottom on each side, then a row of small bolts around the windshield, doesn't look like too bad of a job.

Did 55 Crown. Not hard. Don't forget the two screws that hold up the steering column. And ditto on removing the wheel. I had the entire steering column out on mine but I was doing a frame off.

I did the one on my '59. It had brackets at the bottom on each side. That row along the windshield too. It was tight to wrestle out but it gave up the fight. I just dropped the column down and left it in.

On the 55/56 Fords the thing I always forgot was that part of the wiring harness was clipped at 2-3 places along the length of the dash. If you do not "undo" the wiring from the clips everything will be loose and you will think you are free...but only for a few inches.

Could be frustrating.

I seem to recall removing the floorpan halves that bolt to the floor around the steering column and loosening up the 3 bolts that hold the steering gearbox to the frame. Then remove only two of those bolts and allow the steering column to drop down and rest upon the front seat. Watch your turn signal wiring closely and remove any wiring clips that may cause it to hang up. Of course the steering wheel needs to be removed first for best results. Its a lot more work but way easier to remove the dashboard and less chance of scratching paint on the steering column.
