Remember 9/11/01

My job involved flying somewhere for a few days almost every week. On 9/11 I happened to be at the Boston office. I watched the breaking news and immediately called my mother. I didn’t even say hello. I just blurted out “I’m fine. I’m not in New York. Don’t worry.” A little while later my phone rang and it was some company calling to sell some freaking thing or other. I let the telemarketer have it, all of it. I screamed into the phone, “How DARE you? SHAME ON YOU!” and slammed down the phone. One second later I realized she had no idea what was taking place. I don’t feel good about it.

What a dreadful day. So many lives were affected. And for what? Because people who lived on the other side of the world were taught to have such hatred for people in America, people they never met? And how many of us now have reciprocal hatred, too?

It's the byproduct of letting certain three letter agencies run amok with no oversight arming and training unhinged extremist groups in the name of "containing communism"
