I am painting acrylic enamel w/catalyst and am needing to resand and paint some panels.
what is the roughest grit paper one might use to sand down orange peel before using the finer and more-finer grits.

thank you,

To remove orange peel on enamel I use 1000 grit then 1500 then buff. If you are going to repaint enamel you can get by with 600. 180 and 220 is for bondo work.

If the peel is significant, I'd start with at least 600 ( maybe 400, if peel is heavy) then go to 1200 , then 2000. With 400, don't take all the texture off; just sand until you have small shiny spots left, then go to 600 or 1000. I always wet sand by hand, use only 3M paper and use 3m compound and Trizact 3000 with foam pads at 1500 rpm for compound and 1800-2000 rpm for trizact.

No more than 220 but try it first, you would rather not cut down to the primer, if you can tolerate spending the time sanding the peel use a 600 and then you can shoot right back over it, key is not cutting down to the primer sealer coats.
