Reds Headers question ?

Talked to a guy by the name of jim at reds headers, asked about
a set of headers for my 31a banger,
He told me they were having some problems and trying to catch up
and it would be a couple weeks before any more would be made.

My question is: I read in several forums that they were not going to
make any more,

They lost their fabricator.

There was a death.

On and on.

Anybody know whats going on? Should i wait and see or go elsewhere?

They've had a problem finding/keeping qualified-welder personnel for a while now. Possible that position has now been filled and they may need a couple of weeks to get the line back to normal production.

I've also heard what V8Coopman has written....several months ago !
Recently, after hearing of the 'employee/welder' situation, I went to a swap meet and there was a barely used Reds' header. I looked it over and spoke with the young man/seller. He had tried to use this header and gave up on it , when he could not get it to seal..intake/exhaust. When examining it closer, I explained to him that no one would ever get this header to seal, the way it was built. He sold it to me cheap:rolleyes:, as the four exhaust pipes had been welded 1/4" or more thru the plate :eek: !
I took the reds header , welded on , badge off of the header and with a lot of work, made it good as it should have when created.
So, as said, I wouldn't hold breathe waiting, as you have other options.
 
Do a search here, BCCHOPPIT I think, builds QUALITY headers and intakes for the A, and anything. Located in Torrington, CT

About a year or so ago, I tried to buy a Red's Header for my '49 Ford flathead six that was advertised on his website. I was told that the man that made that header had left and it was discontinued indefinitely.
 
Last year I sold a red's header for an A because it looked like crap to me. Looked like a muffler shop bent the tubes, I thought they had mandrel bent tubes. It looked very cheap. I bought a header flange from Bill and will make my own.
