redone complete 292 y-block worth

Are you buying or selling ???

Not as much as it costs to have one redone. (starting about $2k, and up)
Unless it was built by a well known shop with some sort of decent warranty.
I suspect most folks prefer to do their own as much as they can, or send it to their favorite shop, so they're comfortable with how it was done. Instead of not really knowing.

Is it from (and set up for) a full-sized car, truck, T-bird??? That will determine a fair amount of the value.
It's my impression a slowly increasing percentage of engine shoppers are going with later model engine swaps, maybe a bit more so for the trucks. Desire for a fresh 292 isn't what it was.
Collectors and T-bird owner / builders are more likely to stick with the Y-block, but are often looking for the 312 instead... and for the T-birds, with some or most of the T-bird specific bolt-on parts.

Does the seller have his receipts? Do the gaskets look new, or painted over? Does it include a 57 up distributor? A four barrel intake? Has it been converted to PCV? Will the owner let you remove rocker covers to check for sludge and rocker ratio? Those are the things I would look for.

Amen, Ole Don . Then there's items like the modifications to the oiling system, rockers, etc. One done right is around $3400, providing everything machines up right.
