Red fuel line

Only to the end of the driveway and back. It is illegal in every saftey inspection I know about. NSRA, NHRA, SCTA.

This is crazy, how can they be allowed to still sell this?..whats the deal with some of the shady products from speedway?

Hey, that stuff wasn't any good even back in the 60s. I used it in my 56 Ford back in the mid 60s and it turned hard as a rock and turned solid pink even with the good gas available back then.

How about some of the stainless steel braided brake lines that are out there ? Ever see anything that says they are D.O.T. legal?

Is the clear red fuel line from Speedways safe to use with todays gas ?
Bums, DO NOT DO IT!!
I put this stuff on my banger engine because, well it fit in well with what I had.
I'm cruising down van nuys blvd and (sans hood) when I smelled gaz!! Lucky I had no hood!! As I looked over the cowl...holy cowl..a stream of gas spurting a foot tall from this red stuff...NOW TURNED PINK AND BRITTLE! A little 'scotch tape'..hey, it's all I had, got me home. I called Sac Vintage Ford 'to advise' that this crap was going to get someone killed. Man , my engine was covered in gas when I shut her down. Proving that it takes a spark..not just red hot manifold(grin)! Their still selling it, as far as I know!!

I tried it on my 48 F1 - it looked good as part of the truck rebuild, but it turned hard and brittle and leaked gas. So I put fresh red hose on it and 6 months later, same thing.

I threw it in the trash and used black rubber fuel line. That was several years ago and not a leak since.

Last winter I did an emergency repair on my 52 plow truck - all I could find in the size I needed was some 10 year old left-over red gas line. Put it on and got the plowing done. The truck sat for 3 months when I went to move it. Wouldn't start - dumped in 5 gals of gas and wondered what I heard running.... yeah, the red hose had ruptured and gas was just running out - it must have emptied the tank while it sat.

Some are, a lot aren't. When DOT rated they have a tag on them that states so. That's not to say that there aren't probably some liars out there, but then that could be true of "normal" brake hoses too.

I've never heard anything good about that red hose and would not recommend it. But, I remember seeing a car where the owner had made up steel hard lines, polished them, and then covered them with the red line. It gave the effect you want with a safe way of doing it. Hope that is helpful.

Thanks for all the replies to my question, you may have saved my old red truck. I was using the red fuel line, when I took it off it was cracked under the hose clamps. Its a good thing we use such a low fuel pressure on our old Flatheads. Thanks Again Bum.

I bought some from Speedway about 5 years ago and it is still pliable and does not leak. I check it just about every time I take the car out. I do not drive this car that much so that may be the reason it still is ok. If you drive yours a lot, I would check it oftern.
