Here's a trick from my father, he use to fly rubber powered free flight model airplanes. They would use a mixture of 50% glycerin and 50% liquid soap as a lubrication for the rubber bans. I make up this mixture and soak old rubber parts in it. Weatherstrips, seals. It will soften the rubber and bring it back but it takes time 5 -6 weeks some times depending on how hard the rubber has become. I also use it on the weatherstrips of my daily driver to keep the doors from freezing shut. It's water based so you have to wipe it back on after you wash the car. The nice thing is, if you have to paint the door jams you can wash it off with soap and water. Nope this helps. You can get the Glycerin at the corner drug store.
Thanks, Tinbasher!

I don't know if this will work or not, put when I was a kid, my dad bought some old original tires for his 1923 Nash that were hard as a rock and unusable.
Some how he found that burying them in yes COW MANURE would soften them. I remember going up to my uncles farm and we buried four tires in a pile of manure and left them there, I think over the winter. When we dug them out they were again soft and pliable. After washing them up he put them on the car, which we used for quite a few years on tours in the early 1960s.
Later He sold the car to a man from Balitimore, MD who then drove it all the way home from central CT. with no trouble at all.
Don't know if it would work with NOS hoses but it might be work a try???
So, for those who have installed these fossilized hoses on their cars, how long do they last in service, what with the notorious vibration and flexing of the motor mounts, etc. ?
Was the manure fresh or aged ? ( Actually, I'm serious in asking the question...)
Not to mention the vibration you are transferring to the fragile radiator through the solid hose.
There are reasons they didn't use solid pipes to connect the engine to the radiator. I'd assume vibration AND expansion\contraction.
As clearly noted, they very quickly become soft and pliable. It's a non-issue. Fragile radiator? You must be talking about modern ones.
I have two packages (one in each) of "TED WILLIAMS" brand, want to buy one and find out ??Well, I'll leave the Ante-deluvian hoses for the folk building "points" cars.
I hope folks don't have as much faith in Coolidge-era prophylactics...

I love it, cow manure used in auto restortion.
