recommendation on a tachometer on 1936 ford flathead

Steve46 & Ken ct......

I went to westech site.......which unit should I buy ? The 2imp/rev or 4imp/rev ? It's for my '40 85 HP. Thx.....

Mike

I think this of interest for many, for me I would like to install a tach so I can monitor revs with my Columbia, also as I have a twin carbs on a Thickstun, it would be helpful in the fine tuning.
Thanks for the info so far.
Gordon.

Here is the link to the digital tachometer. If you only want a temporary set-up, it costs less than $50, so is probably a lower cost alternative. Has its own lithium battery and triggers off a spark plug lead.

My mates has been on his car for 3 years, is an earlier model I believe. Has been reliable and still on original battery.

Measures 3" long by 1 1/2" high.

Cheers, Tom.

Just trying to go by Ryan's rules.

Lawson...Could you possibly quote the part in Ryan's rules that would disqualify asking for advice on installing a tachometer on a 1936 Ford? I'm slow, but I seem to have missed that part. Thank you.....DD

Hi Mike. When I get home tonight, I'll take a look at my Tach. Honestly, since I'm not sure what the "imp/rev" represents, you may want to contact them and ask. Very nice folks to deal with. Steve

Mine is a 4 imp's per rev/ the other is 2 imp's per rev. In the instruction list. I told them what i had and they sent the 4 imp?? Its the right one i guess for a 36. ken ct. I still have it in the box.

No, I can't quote the rule but he has mentioned several times in the past.

Lots Of Good Advice Above, I Am Glad Throwback Got The Info And Support He Needed, Thank You All.

Lawson, I'm not trying to annoy you. Just give some thought to this. How many people here are sticking with 100% original?
From tyres, radiators, engine swaps, fitting overdrives, changing gearboxes or diff ratios, the adding of electric pumps, skimming heads for improved C.R. fitting a later model of carb, changing to hydraulic brakes, wanting to convert to a tandem circuit system, fitting an extra electric fan, fitting an o/head conversion to a model A, just want a couple of shiney ally heads on their car, adding halogen lights, converting to 12 volt
Are any of these changes breaking the rules?
Do you want all these offenders to leave Fordbarn?
Would you like 97% of the forum members to go else where?
I read the sticky post from time to time, so am sort of aware of what is expected.
This forum is a "happy place to be" for a lot of us Ford fans who want to mix and mingle with like minded people, the majority of who change things from original.
I imagine that 70% to 80% of posts at any one time are about some form of change from original. Is it o.k to talk about Skips pumps or thermostats?

I am just asking you to be a little tolerant of these faults we have, in the interests of harmony.:)
Let's enjoy. Life is short. BTW. your truck looks beautiful!

Every question to me is a good question sharp abrasive responses deserve to be ignored I have beed subject to them they are most unpleasant Ryan may have to kick every one off that doesnt have a completely original concours Ford should that happen there will not be many left im sure.

Here is the tach in our 46.
Westach 2ct34-6v
or
W/186-6v

Now that we have an O/D it is interesting to see the engine speed in various gears. John

Very eloquent! DD

HI, IMP/REV is the number of pulses ( sparks ) in just 1 rpm of the engine , so the tach "knows" how many cylinders is dealing with for the measuring. In other words is what you modify with the switch 4 (2 IMP/REV),6 (3 IMP/REV),8 (4 IMP/REV), and so, always talking about 4 cycles engines. Hope it helps.
Ricardo.

36's didn't have a tachometer. Go to the street rod forum.
Hi Lawson; A lot of us know you're a good guy. Your post may read a little abrupt to some just because you kept your sentences short. You and I used to correct each others grammar on occasion, in good humor, but I'll let this one go. (grin) Craig.
