I had to get some grade 8 fasteners yesterday
and went down to my local hometown supplier ...

Who do you use for nuts - bolts - fasteners
in your hometown (other than big box stores)
when you need a handful ?

My go to supplier:

Bond Industrial Supply
921 North Main Street
Franklin, OH 45005-1650
Phone: (937) 746-4637

Bond has just about every size nut & bolt
in sae and metric - prices are very reasonable

For eastern Connecticut, Mag Bolts at Magenau Company is the place to go. Very old fashioned small place on a side road in the city of willimantic, located in the old Hudson dealership. 42 Walnut St, Willimantic, CT 06226. Only room for 3 customers at a time, all the stock is in the back room.

We have a TrueValue in Durango that has the best nut/bolt selection I've ever seen. For mail order I use Gardner-Wescott as they have no minimum purchases.

Just an aside, the problem with almost all fasteners today is they are imported from countries where there are no quality standards. Unless they are stainless or hardened they are usually made out of some combination of junk metals which cause them to break or strip at the most inopportune times.

Fastenal. They had the 5/16 x 1 clevis pins and Stainless Cotter pins for my recent brake job. Also warranties on the Grade 8 bolts I broke on the hub puller.

Hanks Hardware in Temecula, Ca is an Ace store but they carry grade 8, Allens, stainless, etc., etc. I much prefer them to the depot stores.

You Brute! Sounds like a puller is almost optional!

I bought the cheap puller, 2 half moons, one annulus, one heavy duty block, a bunch of grade 5 bolts.

The drums were probably last removed during the Eisenhower Administration, and the grade 5's were a joke.

The grade 8's did the job at the expense of their lives, shafts and threads.

I bought a K&N style so I never have to get another cortisone shot in the shoulder.

Best nuts and bolts in Kenner Louisiana . don't know the exact address but if anyone needs it Pm me and I will get it for you.

Farmers Mid-County in Nashville, Illinois for all your hard to find nuts, bolts, bearings and everything else. If Tom had a need for it in the past 47 years he has it.

Blue Callor Supply in Sacramento Ca. They only sell SAE but they have it all, stainless steel, grade 8, fine course, washers, large sizes. They sell all nuts and bolts by the pound. Great system, load hand fills into bags and they weight it all when you leave. Also have casters, steel, alum, chain anything you need for a shop. Also have a lot of industrial surplus stuff that can be very useful.

Best place I have found for hardware.

Whenever anyone has ever asked where I get any nuts or bolts, I have always reccomended the same place. I have been going there since 1955, and they were there long before me. The only difference between now and 1955 is the fact that the place is brighter, not cleaner, bigger or anything else just brighter. A huge building with a customer counter, you tell them what you need and they go get it for you, doesn't matter if it's one, two or one thousand. Grade 2, 5, 8 doesn't matter, stainless, black oxide, nickle or chrome, standard, metric they got it, and if they don't they'll get it. I have never once heard the words "we don't have that" in all of the years that I have been going there. And the prices are fantastic. The big-box stores are a joke and this place makes Fastenal look like a big-box store.

At first no one beleives that I am serious about the name of the place, they think that I am just joking and that I don't want to tell them the real name, so it will be my secret. Really though, the name is ACME, and with a name like ACME, it has to be good!

Interesting article in "Old Car Weekly" this week on bolt/nut capacity by grade, and torque specs for antique hardware before the Grading system.

Tioga Stainless is a good source for stainless slotted screws of all types and they also are at Hershey in October.

Here in Ohio and Indiana ,TSC, Rural King and other farm stores sell grade 3, 5 and grade 8 bolts by the puond and is generally cheaper than paying by the piece at hardware stores if you're in need of large quantities.

three places close by me in calif, fasenal in oroville calif, if they dont have it will get in about two days, tractor supply in oroville ca. they sell bolts, nuts and washers by the bound, grade 2 thru 8, the , valley wide fasteners in chico ca. they sell almost every type of bolt and fastener made, and if they dont have it they will get in 2 to 3 days, they will also mail them to you

McMaster-Carr Supply Co. (Link) I order online and pickup about 20 minutes away. I'm in Chicago, they're just outside. Need stronger than grade 8 flanged twelve point bolts or other specialty stuff? They have it.

These people are great! No problems with small orders from individuals. Their NJ distribution center is about 20 minutes from my house, but if they ship, it comes the next day and their shipping charges are reasonable.
