I am having my original 1931 "A" radiator being rebuilt as it starting leaking, the shop just called me and said i need to have it recored as it will not hold 14lbs of pressure, once it gets to 14lbs it leaks at a differant spot everytime he tests it. Does it need to hold 14lbs? Should i just have him stop and run it the way it is? Thanks

Your radiator should only be tested at 5 lbs max!! It is not designed to hold any pressure!! It's a non-pressurized system. You need to find another shop. There are shops that know how to repair these. If your radiator doesn't leak at 5 lbs it is fine leak wise. My guess is they destroyed your radiator by busting the tubes.

Most Radiator Shops today, Don't want to Repair Your Original, because you will be back their again, if It leaks. They would rather sell you a New Core, and Have No Headaches, seeing you Return, If you get my Driff. And make More Money in less time, and after You get over the Initial Shock and Buy a New Core, Your Happy and the Shop will Probably have saved their Reputation.

I've spent Hours trying to do a couple My Self, that even looked good, to no Avail. I kept the Tanks and Straps and Junked the Cores for $ toward a New one.

Really if we all live to be 80 Years Old and some one can Repair us, and keep us going, God Bless Them !!!!

Years ago I worked in a radiator shop and recored many radiators. Where can I buy a core for my Model A?

What year? I bought a new mint core from Berg's in IL for my 1928-9.

I don't know if they now make them also for the 1930-1 or not.

I had a 30-31 radiator recored. The shop took measurements from the old core and ordered the replacement by size.

I exchanged mine for a recored one with Bert's in Denver. So far have had no problems. They also gave me a heavy duty one that is not suppose to get over 180 degrees. So far that has held up.

Yes, Berg's also has 30-31 cores. You can't go wrong with Berg's. You can use your original top/bottom tanks and their core. Great to deal with and Quaility work. Have a 30-31 Berg's for my pickup.
