Ok My rebuilt 292 wont turn over.Battery is charged to 12v.When i use the remote starter switch it just gets hot.Its a 3 spd and its in neutral. It doesnt even try to turn over> BAD STARTER? Im hooking RSS from pos batt to starter cable ,The 2 small terminals are not wired to as i dont want it to start just taking compression readings,Thanks

Put a socket on the crank pulley and try to turn it clockwise. If you only tighten the bolt, put on your thinking cap. What was the last thing you did putting the engine in the car?
Did you assemble the engine? Did it turn over easy to torque the rod caps? Remove the starter, when you release the three bolts, do you hear the spring unwind? Test the starter on the ground holding it down with one foot. Look for something out of place in the clutch area. Maybe remove the trans and try to turn it with a screw driver on the flywheel teeth.
Report back results.

Do what justold says. Hooked up the way you said, you are putting the starter amperage thru the starter switch and wiring. Not near heavy enough. Let the starter solenoid provide the path and your starter will probably turn engine over.

My dash is not in.no ignition switch, etc.if I put it the way I did doesn't full batt voltage go directly to starter motor, bypassing the starter solenoid?.thanks.

They're right up above. You need to energize the solenoid, and let it provide the high amperage to the starter. I'd check the RSS with a VOM, you might have fried it, and it could be fried closed.

I agree with the guys above, you might have burned up your remote start switch. Those small wires & switch contacts can't handle the amount of power needed for the starter, that's why the starter cable and the solenoid/switch are so big.
justold, CrownVic55 & Miker98038 are correct, a remote start switch is only used to energize the starter solenoid, by sending "+" power to the "S" terminal.
connect remote switch to pos battery - other end to the small term marked s or start
Here's a photo of the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid. You said you have the wires off the 2 small terminals so the ignition won't be energized while you do a compression test. If you hadn't taken those off (with your dash apart) the other ends would be 'hot' when you hit your remote start switch. So don't let them touch anything they shouldn't.
