rear spring to crossmember

What do I use between rear spring pack and crossmember? or is it just metal to metal? Does not seem right to me, but I do not remember anything falling off 3 months ago when i removed them. Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a piece of heavy canvas like stuff that is impregnated with something like oil that is about 6" wide and has a square hole in the center for the spring bolt head.
The front spring has a similar piece that is narrower.
Look up in the xmember, it might still be there.

Deuce is correct. I used a rectangular piece of .090 aluminum as it does not squeak, wears well doesn't hold moisture. Been like that for 25 years. Works great.

Thank you, previous owner removed a couple of the leaves, so he may not of put it back on.
