I removed the rear shock today and when I removed the cotter pin and large screw it came off fine but shouldn’t there be a spring under the screw holding the cup down? I don’t have one but not sure I need one.

Are you talking about the schock link?? Snyder's, Bratton's, mac's should have a diagram of assembled parts in the link.
Paul in CT ps:saw your ad in hemmings for business.

Thanks Paul I will check out the diagram, let me know if you hear of any other businesses for sale, the one you mentioned is up in the air for now.

No, you do not need an extra spring. There is a spring and spacer
between the cup pairs. This keeps the link at maximum length and the inner cup halves and the spring keep tension to prevent the link from coming off of the ball connecters.
