Hi I'm looking for the part number for the rear output seal in overdrive. The splined shaft for the rear end pinion gear goes through this seal.
Thanks
While the R10 tail shafts are similar among the different transmissions that used them, I'm not sure if they are all the same. If it's a basic Ford 259 series of 1949 to 1953, let us know. Lincoln used the R10 first with it's big transmission and then it went to Ford and Mercury in 1949 but the Merc is a bit diffferent in the first 2.2 years. Lincoln used the T85 starting in 1949 and some pickups used that later. There was also a T86 version that was a top loader type transmission used in the later 50s.
You're going to be taking that unit out and either get a number off the seal,or some measurements. That borg-Warner overdrive was used in Fords,Studebakers,Ramblers, and a dozen GM products. That seal might be the same in all or most,or there might be 25 different variations of it.
Now you are talking about the Borg Warner OD unit that was adapted into the middle of the torque tube, right? Not a whole overdrive transmission with an overdrive top gear.
Ford part number: 21C-7052 =C/R 15005, C/R 15047, McCord 80286 NATIONAL/TIMKEN 410059/7692S/3680, VICTOR 49567,
Dimensions: 1.500(1.1/2) ID X 2.374/2,378 (2.3/8) OD X .750 (3/4) W, metal cased leather lip with felt wiper spring loaded OEM/ORIGINAL FORD construction/type.
A lot of the torque tube OD set ups used a Studebaker tail end or other long tail shaft types. They may be the same or similar to the Ford 21C-7052-A but I wouldn't count on it. With the drive shaft cut down and a spline coupler installed, it has to mate to the tail shaft spline. This link is to one of Tom Endy's articles on the model A overdrive conversion. It doesn't have a part number so a person would have to measure it out from the OD seat diameter and the diameter where the seal lip rides on the stub shaft assembly. There were problems there as the article explains. https://www.santaanitaas.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Borg-Warner-Repair.pdf
