If you want to shade tree it, you could just cut the rear thrust off leaving the rest of the bearing, and drop in the brass thrust/ slinger seal from snyders. It'll work. Or spend the big buck and do a total overhaul.

In addition to the break-up near the rear of the main bearing, if you enlarge the picture you will see there is a crack through the bearing that reaches to the front thrust surface of the babbitt. I think there is also some separation of the front thrust within 3/4" of the parting line on the valve chamber side of bearing. I think the combination brass seal and thrust would be a pretty short lived fix. I think it is time for new babbitt or inserts. By the way: The part you suggested works great when rebuilding an engine with inserts. When I use this part, I add a 1/2 circle thrust washer to provide a full rear thrust surface. I machine a recess in the cap to receive and retain the additional thrust. The block and the part shown above keep the additional washer from turning with the crankshaft. If you want to shade tree it, you could just cut the rear thrust off leaving the rest of the bearing, and drop in the brass thrust/ slinger seal from snyders. It'll work. Or spend the big buck and do a total overhaul.
