I want to replace the oil pump in a 1937 ford 21 stud motor that I am rebuilding. I have bought a new shorter melling pump that I think makes more pressure than the long original pump . Am I going to have rear main leaking problem as this motor has only a slinger no seal ? Has any one had experience with this?

If you are rebuilding the engine and grinding the crank and the beg. clearance is correct, you should have have any trouble. I use that pump M-19 in all those early engine up to 42 with no rear seal. Walt

I have a Melling M19 OP in a rebuilt '35 21 stud engine with a stock CS oil slinger and no rear main seal. It always leaves a few drips on the garage floor from the hole in bottom of oil pan that has a big cotter pin. I would not consider this to be a serious oil leakage problem. These old Fords always seem to like to mark their own territory.
