Rear License Fasteners

For years I've asked what was used for the rear license fasteners. I didn't see anything mentioned in the Judging Standards, and never found anything special on the cars I've looked at. I've been using common 1/4" hardare bolts and nuts.

Last night at our club meeting I won one of the door prizes, which was a set of rear license fasteners. I put them on my 28 before I even drove home from the meeting. These are a very nice addition to the car. Bratton's has them on page 84 listed under "TAIL LIGHTS" part # 18930.

I'm wondering if this is something Ford installed on the cars when they left the factory?
Even if they didn't, it's the best thing I've seen for fasteners of the rear plate.

A dealer item? I'm thinking no fasteners from the factory based on the photos of the factory cars on line and in dealerships in 'As Henry Built it' . So I guess if your too far away from the hardware store on the farm, bailing wire comes to mind. I really have no idea.

snickers skip.

I have somewhere an unused toolkit that came from the same source as a late '31 carb from the same guy. Perfect kit in a perfect bag, wrench jaws had never touched a nut. Inside were a pair of untouched new front license bracket clamps loosely threaded on their hardware.
From this encounter, I believe that the license hardware may have arrived at the dealership in the toolbag, and that my stuff simply came from a car sold in a single-plate state. It was probably from Maryland...no idea if that fits.

I am doubting if the factory supplied license plate fasteners, as that was the retail buyer's responsibility to acquire plates and fasten them to the car. They did not leave the factory with license plates.
Just don't use phillips head screws and you should be OK. Just my opinion.

Front clips are in catalog in headlight sectio (A-13145) with all hardware listed. Rear bracket is in TL section; there is a confusing jumble of hardware there.

On the front cover of the Bratton's 2010 catalog it shows a picture of a 1931 on an assembly line and you can see the front lic plate brackets are installed on the front light bar. But I don't know about the rear

I hope these 2 pictures come out OK. I found picture posting easier on Shelly's Fordbarn. Sometimes I get just a small picture here when I post.

OK, that worked. I think they are made of stainless and the bullet nut has a pair of wide tabs that engage the slot in the license bracket, so no wrench is needed.

Bought the same from A+L Parts back in 1986. Sold as a Special Dome Nut & screw:an ORGINIAL ACCESSORY used on Model A and other cars.. $4.00

I bought a pair a few years ago but couldn't use them. The screw head is very large and on a 1928 California YOM plate would crush the raised border and part of the numbers. I need a small head to fit the original plate. I could go buy a small-headed bolt at the hardware store to fit the unique domed nut, but I have a metal plate mounted to the back of the license plate on the right side to hold the modern validation stickers. The domed nut won't fit to that, and the sticker plate can't be mounted between the license and the bracket since the bracket has an overhang. Catch-22. So I have a simple bolt/washer/locknut/nut setup.
