Rear Hub Puller

I am in need of a puller to remove my 38 wide 5 rear drums. I see 3 types currently for sale on ebay. One is a socket type, one is a Bray 3 jaw hub/gear puller and the third is called the Mechanics Hub Puller. Has anyone used any of these and can recommend which, if any, will do the job? Thanks. I have seen a thread recommending one in this Forum that costs close to $300 new and that's just not in my budget.

I have the KR Wilson style of hub puller. That is what I would recommend. Don't use any puller that has the three legs as that will most likely damage the drums. If there is a local V8 club chapter in your area, someone might have the correct puller that you could use.

I personally have the Economy version from Macs ($75) and have used it several times with no problems, its not the same quality as the Wilson puller but its pretty heavy duty. Just make sure you tighten the two bolts evenly and it will work fine.

From what I remember correctly I use a Model "A" rear hub puller. The last wide five I worked on was 2 years ago but I think thats what I used.

Some hubs will come off easily if you are lucky. Some that I have removed were really locked on the tapered axle. Borrow or buy a good puller that's right for the job.

I agree with JM. I bought a KR Wilson replica several years ago for my Model A. I thought to myself that it was a lot of money for a tool seldom used. Since then I have used it many time-repack hubs, check brakes and bearings. Now I am using on my V8 project. It is not worth ruining an axle or hub and drum with a cheap tool. Same tool 28-48.
