Rear hub puller comparisons

Does anyone have experience using these two types of rear hub pullers?

1. An exact copy of the K.R. Wilson Tool at $148.

2. An economy style item at $33.

Is the expensive one more effective or reliable than the cheap one?

Thanks.

Pete, I've found for really tight hubs the K R Wilson is the best. Pricey I know but in my opinion it's the best.

I have the KR Wilson puller and find it does a superb job. I have used the cheaper model and was not impressed.

For cheaper than the KRW type but better than the cheap one since it removes both inny and outy Ford hubs, look into the Mitchell Manufacturing (overdrive maker) hub puller - slick and compact, too.

I purchased and used the economy version with no issue.:)

Now, that being said it always depends, how many drums you will remove, how many different cars, etc. For the hobbiest like myself I could not justify the more expensive tool.

The Mitchell overdrive company make a very nice puller. It will fit both style rear drum hubs, the ones with the ridge, and the ones with the valleys. The parts are small, so they can be carried easily on a tour. I bought one from them several years ago and it works very well. The cost then was about $75.

I had a hub so tight I didn't think I'd ever get it off short of cutting it off somehow! I tried all sorts of pullers unsuccessfully and finally bit the bullet and bought the repro K. R. Wilson puller as a last resort. My hubs have a very high shoulder on them and so the puller did not fit all that well. In fact, the sliding "collar" would not even begin to go over the two "shells" because they were held too far apart. Instead, I wrapped wire around them good and tight to keep them in position. The hub came right off first time, so I guess I'd have to say it was worth it. Sure made one hell of a pop!

I bought one last month and price was still $75 plus $5 for shipping. Haven't used it yet, but it's built like a brick s********.

I don't know if the other pullers have this or not, but the Wilson has the piece that protects the threads.

Probably not too good, but it worked for me:

I have both the KR Wilson which was brought second hand from a friend but when I went to use it I found one of my hubs was the shouldered type So I brought the cheaper puller for the shouldered hubs. Both work well .
Somewhere in a catalog I did see an adaptor plate to allow use of the KR Wilson puller on shouldered hubs but can't remember where .Darn it !

I searched on the internet for the Mitchell universal rear hub puller, but found nothing. Where can one be purchased?
Thanks,
Rusty Nelson
