Rear End Oil

Hey guys,

I have a '29 Tudor and I have a basic question for you. What types of oil are you putting in your rear end? I have a small leak at the drain plug and want to make sure it doesn't run dry. Would you recommend changing the oil ever?

Thanks,

Joe

I buy my gear lubricant from Bratton's or Snyders. Originally, it was 600W. I do recommend changing it in a car that is new to you. Just to be safe, I check it and top it off on an annual basis. I do change it every 8 - 10 thousand miles. Gar Williams

Diff. Plug seepage

To cure differential plug seepage: Wipe plug threads, smear with # 2 Permatex, install, and wipe clean. Quite normal for pipe threads to allow oil to spiral around threads and slowly seep out.

Drain the old stuff and refill with some new 600W from the vendors.
Try either Permatex # 2 which always stays soft, or teflon tape on the threads.

Thanks for your input! I was thinking of teflon taping it as well, but i'll try the Permatex if it does not work.
