A friend of mine would like to find out what rear axle ratio he hason his 39 Ford 2-door. He thinks it was changed at some time. How can you measure the ratio?? Thanks
Most of them have the ratio, or at least what they were originally, stamped on the bottom of the centersection along the main rib toward the pinion flange. example 9 - 37 = 4.11 gears. If this is inconclusive because he thinks the guts have been changed, 3rd gear in the stock trans is 1:1... rotate the engine by hand and count how many times it takes to rotate the rear wheel once.
