have a problem w/ 30 rear doors coming open. luckily not at speed so far. am thinking about slide bolt as safety. does any one have photo or illustration of door without upholstery panel. will i have enough material wood or metal to bolt the slide from outside or do i need. been over 50 years since i had door apart(high school-'60 grad) just don't remember. i am new to ford barn, stumbled over from jalopy journal. thanx for your help, larry

Larry,

I would try, at least try to restore the original latches first instead of the "slide bolt" thing.

If restored properly, there should be no problem with the original latches keeping the door closed.

You might want to consider "seat belts"!

BUT...it is your car and you can do whatever to it as you see fit!

Pluck

Larry, this may or may not help. '30 Town Sedan. Good luck.

Probably just a matter of adjusting your striker plates. They get worn with use and need to be adjusted. If overly worn it may pay to buy new ones for about the same price as you would for the slide bolts.

thanx for the replies. they were all helpful. i do plan on pulling latches and cleaning up as initial step it would seem they are not fully extended, dirty or bad spring. strikers "look" good to me. but may do those b4 cobble up something. thanx again, brubaker pix were what i was looking for! larry

I installed the spring kit in my 29 Tudor latches and greased every moving part. It made a world of difference. They really shut nice now, except the right door still has a slightly sprung door hinge, and it wants to flex the A pillar a little.
