Hello! I am restoring a 29 roadster and I am trying to figure out if the rear cross member attaches to the inside or the outside of the rear inner fender well. I saw a picture once of a car that had the rear crossmember on the outside of the fender well. Thank God for Abarnyard.com! The picture is how I originally found it installed, less a couple of holes and spot welds. I have circled the issues I have on the photo and need some assistance on the correct lineup!
number one on the photo shows the hole that was drilled on the reproduction patch panel! I will weld it closed! 2. shows the position of the hole I drilled for the correct lineup. 3. Shows how I found it assembled with the rear quarter on the inside of the fender well. Finally 4. shows that originally there were three holes drilled through the fender well that lined up with three holes in the cross member but nothing was in these holes! It was actually spot welded together at this point. What should go in these three holes? Rivets or bolts? I assume that the spot welding was done at a later point but I might be wrong! This is the first vehicle that I am restoring and I just want to do it correctly! Any information will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
