Rear cam bearing oiling

I am finially assembling my 59A engine. I reinstalled the original steel pushrod bushing instead of the repo brass one. I don't see where the cam bearing gets oil. It must not be pressurised at all or the oil woud leak out the pushrod hole around the pushrod. Is there an orfice in the oil pump that supplies oil to the oil pump drive gears and the rear cam bearing? Is oil expected to leak out the drive end of the oil pump? I just would like to know where the oil is suppied from so I can check that it will work.
Any thoughts on the push rod bushing? The repo one is much thicker wall so there is less clearance with the pushrod. The oil would be more restricted if it was used.
I can't believe the end of the cam would be under full oil pressure as that would shove the cam forward. I know the cam is loaded towards the rear in 59 engines.

Yes, the engineers depended on leakage form the oil pump to lubricate the pump gears and the rear cam bearing. the rear cavity is open to the valve valley so no pressure is placed on the rear of the cam

The rear cam bearing oiling is provided for in the design clearances of the oilpump. Pressurized oil enters the rear housing, where the oilpump drive idler is located. The oil comes from that which is squirted between the upper pump housing bushing and driveshaft and from around the perimeter of the upper pump housing where it fits into the block.

If ypor worried about the repro bushing( I dont blame you) give me a call and I will sell you a steel n.o.s. one for 3.00 plus 1.50 postage. Thanks Fred 507-332-6789

I don't know what pushrod bushing comments you are looking for?? Are you asking if the stock bushing is better than the brass repro? Or, are you asking if the brass bushing has suffcient strength to withstand the external oil pressure? Or, are you asking if a tighter clearance between the pushrod and bushing is detrimental to overall performance? Or, are you asking about pressure build-up as a result of rod to bushing clearance? Or, what?

Andy: An over kill that we used was to rifle bore the cam so that we could oil the rear cam bearing. We tighted up the tolorence on the top of the oil pump with a new bushing we made for a full flow oil system. We worried about oil flow to the rear bearing so that was the approach we used.
