Rear brake removal

I am trying to remove the rear brake Assembly and the two brake levers will not fit between the fork on the wish bone. Acording to Les Andrews, after removing the brake rods and the four axel housing bolts, it should lift off. I must be missing something. What gives?

Twist/rotate the arm and then pull outward on the brake housing (backing) plate. Another way to say this is do the opposite as if you were installing it. Begin by sticking the lever arm into the 'hole' within the radius Rod and then rotate the plate as you thread the plate over the end of the axle shaft and onto the rear end housing.

And, ....welcome to Fordbarn!

Have you removed the emergency brake arm? Take the bolt all the way out of it and it should slip off. Then you only have one arm to slip through the radius rod opening.
I recently learned that removing the brake shoes first allows much more motion on the brake lever, you can then turn it 360*, makes it easier to find the sweet spot to slip through the radius rod split.

Yea!, I removed the emergency brake actuating arm and I was able to remove the backing plate. Thanks guys
Late 31 pickup , when I figure how to post pictures, I will.

Mark welcome, this is a great site. Ask any question. Don't worry if you may think it is a dumb question. If you don't know how, everything is complicated
