Rear Brake Hubs

Has anyone out there had any experience putting new races in worn rear hubs? I have done it previously and pressed them in fine (tight) on another set of hubs. But with these hubs the races have > .005 clearance and simply drop in. Is it worth filling the gap with JB Weld and hoping for the best or would you buy new hubs ($$$). The drums are still fine (original) 11", very minimal wear. I hate to abandon them, but I don't want to throw good money on these new races. Appreciate any advise.
Thanks

With .005" of clearance, you should be able to use .003" steel shim stock and press in the new bearing.

If you do use JB Weld, then I'd use a center punch to make a bunch of dimples to help hold the new bearing centered and snug and fill in the air gap with JB Weld. I would think that would work just fine, but first I'd try some .003" steel shim stock.

You should be able to find a decent set of hubs out there, there are still lots out there! Then change the good drums to the new hubs. Should not be that expensive.... A friend of mine tried that same repair you mentioned and after 100 miles, and a big machine shop bill, wound up will scrap steel, and had to start all over again.
