rear axle keyed shaft nut torque

If you have a 150 ft lb torque wrench go the full 150 then use a breaker bar to get it to the next castellation and that will set you right. Don't apply anything to the taper, clean and dry only.

Its scary doing it for the first time ; o P

I weigh about 165 lb, so I set the wrench handle to horizontal, and stand on 16"-18" off the fulcrum... Sometimes I bounce on it a bit...

My axle taper surfaces are kinda bad, so I check the torque several times after removing the rear drums.

I had no idea of this info. Thanks very much.
Is there a source for this kind of information available?
I'll ask now - what about front wheels?

The fronts are a totally different situation. Tapered roller bearings do not get heavily torqued. I tighten them lightly, then back nut off one castellation and insert cotter pin. You may need to find a good maintainence manual for your car.
