Rear axle housings question

I am trying to figure out what type of axle housings I should have on my 28 and 29 model A's I am restoring. The judging guidelines are confusing to say the least. On page 4-6 section b) states: After approximately the first 1000 vehicles and continuing through March 1929, the weld faced forward. However in the next section c) states: The weld faced upward beginning in November 1928 to the end of production. Then to make it more confusing section d) states: Beginning in March 1929 through March 1930, the welds faced downward. These three section seem to overlap and actually contradict each other. Section d) really confuses me. I have a late November special coupe and an early 29 phaeton I am trying to use the correct axle housing for. Does this mean that for a November 28 through March 29, either a forward or upward weld is correct? Can someone explain the apparent contradictions in the judging guidelines? Thanks for any help understanding this section.

This section is under review by both MARC/MAFCA JSCs. In my opinion, given the the production months of your car, I would go with section b for the '28 or b/c for the '29. At this time and you would be correct either way and I don't believe this will change. I would not consider section d. It appears that these welded seams may have occurred simultaneously.

Thats one of the reasons i went to hotrods i had 29 dodge years ago and they told me screws didnt line up ....maybe they changed axel at one time..joe

I have to agree with Steve's suggestion and have em either face up or forward. My Special coupe had the both but only the one that faced seam up was egg shaped at the axel bearing so it had to go. A little hunt and I found a good matching seam forward and replaced that one for a pair. Watch for the inner bearing change too as they changed the cut depth early on to allow for a tighter bearing clearance at the carrier. Going through a late 29' Tudor right now and both seams face downward.
