RE: New Zenith Carb 08/02/10

Thanks for all the feedback to my post of 08/02 regarding the "new zenith" carb sold by Automotive Test systems. While not 100% favorable, the number of very positive reports persuaded me to give one a try. It's been ordered and I'll update all when its installed and tested. Thanks again for the inforamtion.

Re: New Zenith Carb 08/02/10

I finally got around to installing mine that I bought several months ago following an earlier discussion on this board. Only have taken it for two 10 mile spins so far, but am pleased so far. I had to convert from insulated metal fuel line to an all-rubber fuel line, and also removed my custom made carb heat shield. New carb works better in 90 degree MI weather than prior insulated/shielded new-repro Zenith-1 rig did. Still trying to figure out exactly what to do with that T-valve adjustment. Doesn't seem to matter a lot, but have not checked mileage or plugs.

Here's some before and after pictures. You can see that I also moved the oil filter so it's not blocking air flow to cool the carb. For expectations management: your fuel line won't line up right, and the new carb will take a pipe fitting rather than compression ferrule dealie. I took everything to auto parts dealer and got the brass fittings I needed at carb and sediment bowl, both to connect to the 5/16" rubber tubing. Got some Permatex thread sealer (check label for fuel resistance) for use on the pipe thread at carb.
