Does anyone know of someone that re-plate's show bumpers on the West Coast, as I was told there's someone out there that re-plate's original bumpers for show.

As I need my original bumpers re-plated to show quality bumpers and do you know of the cost of them, as I'm looking for the name of the place and the phone number so I can call and get a price for the bumpers.

Thanks let me know

Big money- this topic has been previously discussed.

figure 500-1000. per bumper if you can even get fit in to a schedule.

Ronn is correct in all accounts. Search will enlighten you more

Terry at CPS in Brillion Wisconsin does good work but $$$ and long lead time….as are all platers.
Most will not quote a price in the future due to fluctuating metals market….
Not Likely to get better any time soon. Eastern Europe conditions

Christensen Playing in Los Angeles. Last I heard, they were still doing show quality chrome plating on bumpers. The last front they did for me was about $1000 per bar.

Terry at Custom Plating Specialties is great.
Bumpers are not cheap because the steel is essentially a leaf spring, thus it is very hard. So platers go through several sanding belts to do one bumper. And the belts aren't cheap either. Then factor in the copper, nickel, chrome, and labor and you have an expensive bill but a great product.

Back in the early 2000's, I had some stuff plated every now and then. I was able to get the price knocked down quite a bit by doing a lot of the prep and polishing between platings myself. The shop was in Burbank CA close top the 5 and the 134. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the place. You could try to see if you can find a place that will let you do most of the labor.

Regards
Bill

Bill,

Yes I found a place like that in Minneapolis but they don't do very good work and there rep isn't very good either, that's why I trying to find a place as someone at Snyder's antique Auto Part's.

Said that he new someone on the West Coast that did show quality plating and that's why I'm even looking on the West Coast, so I put it on the barn to see if I could find the name of the place but I haven't got a name as of yet.

Everybody just tells me that I could save a lot of the money if I do the prep work myself as I planned on doing that anyway, but I still haven't got a name of a place got one from WI but I could of done that one myself.

I think the next time I talk to my plater in OH I will just ask him if he knows anyone that does show quality bumpers and see what I get out of him.

Try Matt at S&H Chrome. They are in Tennessee and quality work. Model A bumpers were nickel plated only I believe. 615-865-0100

If you want correct original then here is how factory did it.

The back side was left mill scale, the rough surface you would see.

The whole bumper was plated copper, like normal.

Then dull nickle. The front side was then polished out.

Then chrome plating.

They did not have bright nickel till much much later. So the grey color you find on the back side was from the unpolished nickel that was chrome plated.

Chrome plating is basically a clear coat in the thickness it is plated on decorative items. It takes the yellow hue of the nickel and gives it a blue tint.

Not a lot of shops will do the correct plating. You would be best contacting someone who regularly has stuff plated for advice.

Hello, not a Model A but the rear bumper on this Buick was replated for $ 850.00 about 4 years ago.

Some folks like Ogden Plating in Utah for show work. Since you're looking for show results, spray chrome may be out of the question.

Bruce, those prices look very reasonable for repros.

didnt think anyone was under 350.

of course they are not for show. 2 diff animals.

For what it's going to cost IF you can find somewhere to do it AND you're not going for Fine Point Judging, go for the re-pop's.

I'm going for fine point as I'm going to have my original bumpers re-done as I want show bumpers and I can get the original ones done for $2145 for the set ( that's all the bumpers front and back.
