Re Babbitt of main caps.

I understand Bill Barlow stopped repairing main bearing caps, is anyone else doing them, I have a rear that the front thrust had broken off, the crank is OK as are the other two, thanks in advance.

I thought he just quit the individual pieces, but will do a complete job.

Try Ron's machine in Ohio. I know he will pour, I don't know if he will try machining them
without the block.
The problem is the cap can be done to size and everything depends on how spot on your
block it. That's why Bill Barlow quit doing them.
I still have had him pour the bearing caps for a repair and did the align bore myself.

Follow up to Babbitt of main caps,-----Thank you all for the responses, I have posted a few pics of the main cap, taking a second look at the other caps I see some cracks in the Babbitt, I will also need a late rear main cap as someone drilled thru the return passage and damaged the partition where the slinger runs, the picture doesn't show it well.

December 2024 - I am posting this for others who need this repair. I had the same problem and called dozens of companies that do Babbitt work. They all wanted me to send them my engine and plan for a long wait. I was ultimately referred to Gene French - GFrench at hotmail.com. He can (and will) do this kind of repair for a single bearing cap (or your whole engine). He has some main bearing caps in stock (for exchange) or can re-Babbitt yours. He will need your crankshaft journal diameter and how much change to thrust clearance you will need. He does beautiful work. I was very pleased with his work and highly recommend him.
