Can anyone explain the difference between the 1950 and 1951 Ford F3 (Mercury M68) radio. I have not found alot of info and i often see a 51 radio. Is it that the 50 had a special adapter plate to house the radio and that the dash was cut different in 51??? Thanks

I can't say with any certainty about the Canadian manufactured vehicles but the USA vehicles used several manufacturers to supply radio sets. The radios used in USA Mercs of 1949 were very similar to the ones used in pick ups but they had different push buttons and bezels. The F series pickups should have all used the same basic design in 1948 thru 50 but I think it changed in 1951 so it would be more similar to the 1952 models than the earlier ones but I'm not sure.

The 48-50 trucks had 3 ways to mount a radio. The in dash one was like a 49 Merc except it was beige not chrome like the Merc and mounted differently under the dash. Many have adapted them to fit, as they are a lot cheaper than an original truck radio.
There was a kit to adapt the 49-50 car radio into that same opening. It bolted to the dash with 4 bolts. There was also a kit to mount it below the dash.
The 51 dash was completely different and the radio was in the lower part of the dash. Those, you could just use a car radio in the opening. There were 2 versions of the car radio also.
