Hi to all...I was out for a ride in my 55 Ford when I smelt something burning so I shut off my radio and now it does not work...Would this be typical of a tube going ? If so, where can one buy tubes for it ?
Thanks, John in CT
I converted mine to a solid state system, so I have most of the original guts here I would be happy to send the guts to you if you pay the postage.
Those old tube radios were only made to last about ten years, which was the projected life of the car at that time. Although my radio was actually still working until 1974.

Not really, something let all the smoke out of the wire in the radio.....seriously, a tube could fail and cause components to burn, typically a resistor. Given the cost of component repair and the difficulty of finding a tech to do the work converting the radio to a solid state new technology type that looks stock is the way to go. It will cost about 1/3 more then having it repaired.
Dave...I might take you up on that offer....as soon as I get time to pull the radio and look to see what actually happened...I just started to pull the engine in my 56 t-bird to replace the rear main seal so that could take me a bit to get back to you...it is a very kind offer...thanks,John in CT
