Radiator woes

You said it looks cheap? Is it the fins or tanks or welds? I'll be pricing radiators soon so im glad you're reporting.

After looking in a Model A Parts Catalog a few years back where, for example, one was about $75.00 and the other one was about $85.00.

After calling the Model A Parts owner, he responded:

A. On one (1) part, we were paying more for a name Brand; however, the inexpensive one will perform as well; and,

B. On the other part, he advised against the more inexpensive one ..... he said this cheaper one was in very high demand and he had no idea why ........ maybe purchased by guys who were inexpensively restoring a Model A to sell ........ but because other parts houses offered it, so did he ..... appeared somewhat logical.

The 1-800 catalog numbers are toll free ....... are we afraid to hear to hear the truth?

Just trying to help someone to remember the 1-800 number when thumbing through a Model A Parts catalog.

This winter I purchased a new 1930 - 31 radiator for our 1931 CCPU . It was about 25% less weight than the original radiator. All holes had to be enlongated so that fasteners could fit and the radiator filler neck was about a quarter of an inch too far back. I had to grind away the radiator shell neck hole in order for the shell to fit down over the radiator. Looks good, cools well, but fits like ****.

When i started my restoration six years ago, over heating was problem. everyone here said save the top and bottom and have it record. A ct, co. called DeMusses radiator in New Haven did a remarkable job. latecomer

I'll add another vote for Berg's. I picked mine up at their shop about a year ago. With the old radiator, I had to constantly watch the water level. The new radiator fit perfectly and I filled it once and haven't had to add a drop. I have a '31 CCPU.

Thank heavens for discussions like this. A RADIATOR is a BIG investment & NO ONE wants to get jacked around. MONEY doesn't grow on my Wild Permission Tree, outside my MAIN orfice window!!!!

I bought a Berg last Spring. Had minor fit issue and had to adjust holes slightly for bottom bolts to fit. With new water pump it did throw water on a hard tour in West VA mountains. I added a thermostat and no more burping water. Cools great and well made. It is a major expensive but a great touring radiator! This is a case that you "Get what your pay for"

to insure really what you are getting order direct from the manufactures.
there are 2 companies to choose from. They also have web sites and offer
different options .

I picked mine up (it was pre ordered) in Hershey and am very happy with rad.

Vermin has, what I believe, is an ISAAC KRAMER re-pro radiator. Isaac was a Russian immigrant & made re-pro radiators from the late '20's until 1939. Supposedly, it has more water capacity in the UPPER tank?? Sighting through the core, it seems to have an unusual design & the flat tubes are canted a slight amount, for a different air flow pattern??
ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON IT? Mine looks PERFECT, NO signs of repairs & never LEAKS. I sure hope it cools well.
"Someone" was going to post a pic of one, but never did.
