Radiator Stone Guard

Mine has stopped lots of rocks and birds and stones and small children and.....
If you don't like the look of them, paint the mesh black. They'll look like they're not even there

Agreed, anyone have a photo of a black guard?

My old fashioned neighbor who wants everything black has spray painted his black about once every 3 years. The paint seems to peel no matter what he does. The peeling only seems to happen in the centre portion. Wayne

Maybe that is where the majority of the heat is and that is causing the peeling?

I have a stainless guard that I bought 35+ years ago. It still looks perfect. I just installed a new Brassworks heavy duty radiator and wouldn't even test drive it without the guard.

Probably not very relavant on this site but I had to take mine off when I fitted a dropped headlight bar as the dropped bar sits very close to the shell. So if you have or are thinking of a dropped bar forget it.:)

Here is a picture of my 29 pick up I wanted a different look after owning the truck for 50 years. I powder coated the stone guard and the tire cover !!

Someone did less than perfect "body work" on the top front of Vermins' '29 radumator shell, before chroming it!
I'm "thinking" about taping that area & paint it, in '31 style, using "CAST-BLAST. CAST-BLAST is a silvery-grey, satin look & will STICK to most ANYTHING, even without sanding it. It would disguise the "bad" body work.
QUESTION: Do you all think it would be DUMB looking, or would most folks overlook the fact that it wasn't "original?

Who cares, it is yours ! If they did not make payments on it their opinion is not important. Wayne

The 'Stone Guard' is 98% "LOOKS" and 2% protection. If you LIKE the looks, put it on. If you do NOT like the looks, don't put it on.

And if driving on dirt and gravel roads is your thing - put a fine wire mesh screen in front of your radiator. It is very low key and does not stand out - but DOES protect your radiator from road gravel.

If you do not spend a lot of time driving on dirt / gravel roads, there really is no sound mechanical reason to use a 'Stone Guard'. But if 'up scale' "Deluxe" is the look you are after, then there IS a reason to 'Dress up".

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Here's a little different take on a stone guard on my A powered hot rod. It's polished stainless steel shaker screen with a 1/4" round rod surround. I like the fact that it doesn't cover the top of the shell and emblem.
