radiator shell question

Hi All,

I keep seeing 30/31 shells on ebay that have the bottom half missing. Now, I am not the brightest, but don't you need both top and bottom halfs? So if they don't work why do people offer them? Can they be fixed if you have a spare bottom half?

One issue with reattaching the bottom is that many of these have been shortened on the sides or otherwise butchered to fit some hot rod creation. I saw one on which a rodder had shortened the sides by a half-inch and reattached the bottom. It was actually done well enough to almost fool the eye, but would no longer fit a stock Model A. Be wary of this stuff.

This could also have been done to adapt a 31 shell to a 28-29 radiator.

The bottom of the 31 shell can fairly easily be replaced if the rest of the shell is good. The thirty shell would have to be cut to remove the bottom. In my opinion radiator shells with the bottom cut off are ok for rat rods. I have several of them propped up against the outside wall of my shop for decorators. If anybody needs one I would sell one purdy cheap. Shipping might be another problem.
