Radiator selection

What is the best cooling radiator for a 28. I am familiar with the brassworks products (have one on my Model T), but don't know anything about the ones from Independent Antique Radiator that some of the vendors sell. Does one work any better than the other? How about build quality? Also, curious to hear what folks think about using the fan shroud that was only originally used on early 28.

Thanks,
Bob

If you're not building the car for points and trophies, I vote for the heavy-duty Brass-works. Have one on my '28 since April. I do a lot of touring with my car.

Some have noted slight fitment issues with the Brassworks radiators, with respect to shell & hood alignment.

If you are after points and awards you need to say with the stock-type radiator.

The original '28-'29 radiator, together with a clean block, air-tight pump and hoses, and correct timing are adequate, but there's not a lot of "extra" capacity in the original design.

Go with Berg`s Radiator for the "ABSOLUTE CORRECT FIT".. (& the hood fits).. Gery uses ORINGINAL top & lower tanks along with the original side straps on his re-cored 28-29 ones.. Tel; 618-231-3507 E-MAIL- bergsradiator@gmail.com

I second the Berg Radiator option above. I bought one at the French Lick MARC meet and for $700. It is very authentic looking due to the original tanks and side straps. If you have a good original recoreable trade-in, the price is $75 to $100 less. He even scribes a line down the round tubes to make them look like the original Ford tubes that had seams on the tubes. If you are looking for a radiator that looks like an original, Berg is the only way to go.

I have a 28 ordered brasswork radiator installed and found the lower pipe was at the wrong angle could not stop it from leaking tryed both 28 and 29 drain pipe stilled leaked Isent it back and had them run lower pipe out almost strait it fit perfect and i also use shroud. They told me they have some complaints onthis problem so tell them you have 28 and want a almost strait pipe, they were very good to work with.

I use the heavy duty 8 fins per inch radiator from Snyders or Smith and Jones. These radiators have worked excellent for me.

The fan shroud will help a LOT if you drive in parades or drive on trails. Other than that the shroud is not needed, but it won't hurt either way

:)I agree with Berg's Radiator great people!
I have been doing business with Cornelious Bergbower since 1965 and he makes the round tube core just like the 28-29. He uses original tanks so you get that great quality also. You can use your tanks or buy one ready to go. The cores are dipped in a vat of solder so all tubes are soldered to each fin. You can not get a better connection than that. I have never been dissappointed with his products. He makes them for 26-27 T's also cuz that is where he started (round tube core also).
Now a days talk to his son Gary. With this info your over heating on a 28-29 will go away........:):):) It may not be cheap just the best.....

Thank you everyone for the input. I originally wasn't even considering Bergs. Just Brassworks or Independent Antique Radiator, but after all the comments, I may have to rethink that. My car is a driver and I'm not concerned about judging or shows, and I drive in the mountains, so effective cooling was my primary interest. It makes sense to me that flat tubes and more fins both result in better cooling, but you folks have pretty much endorsed Berg. With the same number of fins and round tubes, can I really expect the Berg cool significantly better than a good clean original?
