Radiator overflow tube leaking?

My radiator overflow tube appears to be leaking inside of the top tank of the radiator. Fluid is dripping out of the radiator overflow tube and I confirmed the leak by blowing air into the top of the tube with the other end sealed. Any creative ideas on how to fix this other than taking it to a radiator shop and having them remove the top tank to fix it?

Thanks

I had the same problem this spring and the radiator shop put in a new overflow tube for $15. Of course I removed the radiator, carted it down to the shop and reinstalled it myself.

My overflow tube was leaking just as it exited the bottom of the tank. I removed the radiator and replaced the tube with a length of brake line tubing and soldered it to the bottom of the top tank. Only took a half an hour from start to finish.

I had exactly the same situation with a brand new radiator that I bought from Mac's a couple of years ago. It leaked the first time I filled it. Very frustrating. I removed the rad and soldered up the area where the tube goes into the top tank and it was fine until about a week ago and started leaking again. There is a product from JB Weld called "Water Weld" which is an epoxy resin that comes in a tube with the hardener in the middle. It is like a putty. I cleaned the area around the tube as best I could and applied this stuff and tried to force it into the leak area.

So far it has not leaked. We'll see if it still works a year from now, but I think that it will. Thsi is a lot easier than removing the rad and resoldering.

Good luck

Re: Radiator overflow tube leaking -UPDATE

Well it looks like the overflow tube broke (kinked and broke) where it goes through the baffle. It may also be leaking below this point as well. It's now out of the car and I'm off to the radiator shop on monday. How come this stuff only happens days before going on a tour???
