Radiator Foam

After driving a while my 52 flat motor has foam in the radiator. It isn't over heating. It will lose water sometimes.
What gives? Head gasket?

You want to hope it is a head gasket. That's better than the alternatives.

a couple of things will cause that, some anti freezes will, also some additives, and air being drawn drawn thru the pumps, maybe the cause of your water leak, just try running straight water and see if you still get foam in your radiator

I know I have posted this before, but my 39, which is an open system, will foam and blow out when I have anti freeze in. With water, absolutely no problem. I don't understand it, but that is what happens with my car. Drove me nuts for a while until I figured out to use just water.

I'm not sure why that fixed mine but that's all I changed and it stopped. I just thought I'd throw it out there because you never know.

replace your water pumps. as ford 1 said ,your pumps are leaking air past the shaft seals. i have been told on this forum that this is not possible many times. i learned of this problem from a very experinced flathead authority. your problem drove me crazy for most of a summer cruising season. water was o k, but antifreeze would foam like warm beer. overheating was not a problem until the foaming pushed out a considerable amount of coolant. rebuilt my pumps with kits from Job lot in N Y and solved my problrm.

I'm using the truck water pump and they have been in there for about 18 years. If they ever start leaking, I'll have to rebuuild them and try anti-freeze again.
