Radiator Air Flow

I remember my grandfather telling me that they used to just loosen the clamp bolts a touch then when the weather turned hot you could just grab the bottom of the plate and pull it up so that it stuck straight out flat , then when it got cooler you just push it back down, simple enough

I had thought of that, but was afraid the air flow might bend the plate if it wasn't perfectly straight. Apparantly it isn't a problem

In hot weather mine comes off and lays on the seat beside me. If asked by the police, I just tell them that it fell off and needs to replaced later. I have yet to be stopped by the police. Works for me.

I was just watching 'Farenheit Fright' the other day, the DVD put out by DD Productions about the Model A cooling system. They said that the license plate obstructs 17% of the radiator's cooling capacity, but didn't really say it was a problem with overheating if I recall.

I've never in over 30 years of fooling with Model A's had one over heat and I always run the lic. plate just as original.

If you have to modify from that, there is probably something else going on you need to look into.
