Radias ball

After reading the posts in the last few days about the radias ball. I bought a new rubber ball. I removed the old ball I installed in the middle of March 1985. Since that installation I put on 23000 miles on the car. I put the speedometer to all zeros at that time so I know the miles to a T. The old ball looks as good as the day I put it in. In fact put the 2 balls side by side you cannot tell the difference, after cleanup of course. So whats with the mushey ball thing someone suggested ?? and tbhe shimmy and all that other negative stuff. The car was bought with the rubber ball set up that's why its in there. I really cannot find any fault with it. Tony.

Thanks Tony for posting this info . This is along the lines of what I have been saying for years. I believe that some of the negative posts about the rubber ball setup Is just here say that has been repeated so much that it has confused lots of otherwise good people. Others have lied about the rubber ball setup , I've seen lots of this type thing on the model A forums and it continues, not only about the rubber ball setup but other parts as well. Some will lie just to try and discredit members that they just don't like it happens and is obvious to people that really know model A's. The people that do this sort of thing know who I am talking about.

I have bought parts from Brattons, Snyders, Berts and other good suppliers and never had a problem. There have been live rubber balls sold by some over the years that are effected by oil and will fail in time. Even if a poor quality ball fails, as you know, its no big deal to replace. There are only two nuts to remove and it only takes a few minutes to replace the rubber ball cover .The rubber ball setup takes up slack even if the metal radius ball is worn.
