Radial tire sidewall

I am getting ready to install Coker American Classic 4.75/5.50-19R tires.
I noticed one sidewall on each tire has a chine (lip) on one side only.
I emailed Coker this question and never got a reply.

Is that lip supposed to be on the inside or outside of the mounted tire or does it not make a difference?

It looks almost like the water deflector on large jet aircraft nose tires to deflect water from the engine inlets.

I mounted that lip on the inside because I thought the smooth side looked better. On the wide whitewall tires I believe that lip is where the whitewall ends.

Ensure you check the inside of the American Classic for ANY inspection sticters, they will cut your tubes.

Plain sidewall and ribbed sidewal on same tire.
The rib is 0.150” tall.
That ridge may be the outer edge of a whitewall if one is moulded in.

I mounted my American Classic's with the label facing out which is how most tires with labels get mounted. When a tire has an asymetrical tread pattern it has to be mounted in a specific orientation.

Hello, the rib on white wall does start at that rob area , it will also act to protect the side wall from “curbing “ and damaging the side walls of the tire have photos attached but had to see as still wrapped in plastic.

Mount the lip on the outside. Your wife can wear it off on the curb before she gets to the sidewall.........
