Rack and pinion?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has done a rack and pinion set up with out swapping to a mustang ii or other frame stub ?

There were some suppliers that offered retrofit racks. Sorry, I don't have the info on them. One problem that people noted about them that it increased the turning radius. I haven't seen any info about these for the last few years.

Those kits used a Chevrolet Cavalier rack, my 1954 Ford could turn a circle much tighter than the 2001 Cavalier daly we had. Best improvement is to install the electric power steering in your Ford which uses all the OEM linkage.

I would love to do the EPS, I forgot who it was that did a write up on it, hotrodprimer?. My steering box leaks a little and I don't love the idler arm set up I got new bracket and arm and bushings and there was a whole lot of play. I ended up refusing the original bracket. I put New bushings in everything. I rebuilt the center link with the Dennis Carpenter kit and it was worse. I ended up reusing the original end caps and ball stud. It's crazy how everything remanufactured comes out so crappy. All these things I've been doing just to trace a vibration I've had in the steering wheel since I've gotten her in the road. I'm still chasing lol 5000 miles later.

Yes, I have. Probably have 2k on the car and I love it! I can spin the wheel with on finger! The ebay controller has an adjustment knob that comes with it so you can adjust the amount of resistance in the wheel. I adapted my factory choke knob to it so it doesn't look so generic. The EPS is to die for! A bit of fabrication but easy to hook up electrically. Nothing underhood. No pumps, hoses, reservoirs or fluids and looking at the interior, no one would ever know there's a small electric motor up behind the dash! I highly recommend EPS! Very happy with it!

Yep, factory '54 box. I tore it apart and only replaced the oil seal. The needle bearings seemed fine. Filled it with John Deere cornhead grease and called it a day.
