I do not remember my starter looking like this. Before i spend the time clearing out the garage to replace my starter. I was hoping someone could tell me if this starter looks right. My brother got it for me. Guy told him it was a ford starter and would fit. I'm thinking not.
i have a 24 stud engine - call it a 48. Yes, I remember seeing a sring on the end - not this enclosed whatchamucallit. so this will work.....I'll give it a go....
CP.... I installed one of those in my 21 stud.It was a 12 volt replacement( I kept breaking springs on the original 6 volt). As I recall, the directions said that I may have to file a few thousandths off of the inclosure to get it to fit.I was lucky and was able to wiggle it in.
I put one of those in my 21 stud 34 & it works well but it does not have that good old Ford starter sound. A good friend of mine noticed the sound right away when I took him for a ride.

I have one of thoes drives on my Model A with B engine and one on my 40 with a 59AB. It was a little wiggle to get it in my 40 but finally dropped in. I understand that to put one on an 8BA engine you have to do a little grinding. Walt
I installed the same barrel-type drives on my A,s & work well & no worrys about broken Bendix bolts getting caught up in flywheel. Were made in India & I was leary at first, but seem just fine.
I put one of those newer drives in my A,
When starting it in my mates drive with a trailer and 5 flatheads on board,it blew apart,I had to disassemble the starter to get it out.
Put an old ford spring type one on and its been good ever since.
On inspection of the new broken one it looked like the spline inside was too hard and just shattered.
