Is there any difference between a 46 ford and 46 Mercury dist cap?

It depends on what kind of distributor you have in it. LOL

as far as i know it would be the one the car came with...the two piece type not the crab type.

They both use the 59 A B engine and same distributor.

Over the years I have found some cheap Aftermarket caps that don't fit right, usually too tight. Not sure who or where they were manufactured as they lack any identification. They certainly weren't Factory Ford/Merc.
