On the spare tyre steel cover, is the little rubber that fits in have a section like a number 9,with the tail of the nine fitting into the groove in the cover.
The one I doug out looked rectangular in section.but it looked like it had been there for the duration and maybe worn down.
Thanks Lawrie
As the pic shows, the assembly fun begins

Lawrie that rubber is readily availble, from memory it's under $10. I haven't taken it out of the bag to answer your question but Dave has got it for you. Have you met Dave yet? Hope you got a few jobs for Brian to do while he's down picking up his motor!!!

I was told that an expert was any person over 50 miles from home that owns a brief case
sometime I wonder . I am not an expert (don't own a brief case) but I have a 34 and the section of the rubber looked like it was square.May be 2 different vendors ? Just my 2 cents lee34.

Its interesting what you say Lee34 about the square section.
When I dug the original rubber out it was indeed rectangular, I put this down to 75 years of wear. When I unpacked the Macs repro rubber it was shaped like a 9 and I assumed the head had been worn off on the original.
I dont recall seeing a detail of this rubber in the 35/36 book.
Now that it is in place the assembled cover will squash the rubber flat over time. I think!

Lee,thats my observation too,the rubber I dug out looked rectangular in shape, and I thought that the 9 shaped one would squash down,I looked at my low mileage and owners 34 and it looks rectangular as well.
The 33-34 restoration book dosn,t show the rubber ,
Also the 9 shaped one seems to stick out a lot,I havent tried fitting the rolled outside part onto the disc that has the rubber in it yet as I,m still reassembling my33 after the repaint.
