Just bought a 31 tudor sedan it has V8 style wheels that I don't care for but to my surprise a odd brake drum I'm not familiar with what are they? Can I still run regular 19" 31 wheels? Really confused. Robert

Hello, maybe Rocky Mountain brakes ,are they Mechanical? Looks like brake rod and adjustment cover is visible.Usually V8 conversion are hydraulic.

Yes brakes are still all stock mechanical model a brakes. Just not familiar with them I've never seen any before. I guess alright to use with stock wheels. I put a 19" rim on seems to be alright. Just don't know.

The Wretched Roadster came with these, too. If I recall from what I read here in Ford Barn, they are not “Rocky Mountain”, but were standard Ford fitment towards the end of A production. There was some discussion about potential benefit of better air flow to aid brake cooling but also some doubt as the brake drum and backing plate prevent outside air circulation anyway.

Just took the back wheels off drums are also original Ford cast iron drums also. So I'm assuming these are original equipment from Ford in late 31 production. So I'm good to go if the hubs are still in tolerance to run safely.? Thanks everyone. Robert

The above is valid. But to double check, the stock wheels should contact the drums in three places. One place is at the face at the outer diameter of the drum which would seal off the openings in the drums. See Service Bulletins for details.

I have two sets in use,and another in the shed waiting to be used. You can see the ring where the wheel lip rides on it.That one in the picture looks like it has been run without a hubcap.Dirt and grass won't get in there with the hubcap in place, they stay surprisingly clean in there.
