a friend asked me to help..and i dont know.

his question is there an easy bolt on rear for the 48/50 f1 with a decent highway gear.....i asked him for backing plate to backing plate measurements,,

i might have to post on early v/8 forum, however that forum seems to mostly be for 30s /40s problems..any info would be helpful.TIA for reply..i was once told when i had my 48 f1 that mid 60s f100 six cyl straight drive 300 gear would bolt right up,however i didnt pursue that,

BTW 50 merc running engine take out for sale..any body?

You'll want to use between 58 to 64 stepside that had a 272 or 292 in it. It usually will have 3:55 gears. That's what i used on my F-1. It is a direct bolt in. Shocks line up, I didn't use an emergency brake, and the drive shaft will have to be either shortened or lengthened depending on what motor/trans combo. I believe its 53 in. backing plate measurements and about 41 on the spring perches, FYI all the way up till 72 will work, but the later years you will have to alter the lower shock tower on the rear end itself. Good Luck Ken
