i bought a quail radiator cap with a thermometer and i cant grt the threads started because the radiator sits too low in the shell. my plan is to put some body shims to raise the radiator 3/8 of an inch screw the cap on then attach the shell to the radiator and modify the holes if neccessary. any other suggestions?

We have a '28 Roadster in our shop that had that problem. Close investigation revealed the cause to be the upper front corners of the top tank. They prevented the shell (original) from dropping sufficiently to expose the threads on the neck. Removed excessive solder on the corners and that fixed it.

Repro radiator  repro shell:confused: its a 1928/29 quail since its a screw-on and Ford did not make one with a thermometer stuck up the quails butt:D so like Timothy said see if the cap screws onto the radiator first. watch you hood alinement too before you start raising anything.
