Pushing Coolant Out The Overflow

After modifying the water pump and putting in a thermostat I took my car out today and ran it about 40 miles. When I got home I checked the radiator and presto! the water was the same level, just over the baffle, as it was when I started out. So I think the water out the overflow problem has been solved. Thanks to everyone for there suggestions.

If you could post a photo of the back if you pump if you have one ... It could be a later b stle pump with the smaller impellers
I respectfully disagree with the advice of Larry see man that its ok to run 2 quarts low . Yes there needs to be room for expansion but usually filling to the baffle where you can just see it is it . That generally isn't 1/2 gallon low . Many times in repro or old aftermarket radiators the baffles are not large enough or constructed properly and cause water to go up into the neck more than it should, pushing it out the overflow and cap. A good original baffle runs across the top of the radiator tank fairly far. Many poor ones are just a u shape channel .

I doubt your impellers are the issue. It's probably more the radiator itself with the upper tank/baffle, or a percent of blockage in the tube. Make sure its a good 3 row core and not one of those old junk 2row cores
Just something to check
Thanks

Larry, I don't have any pictures of the inside of the water pump as it is back on the engine. The Radiator is a three row and seems to be clear. I think my pump may be a little unique as it is on a Miller head. The gooseneck is mounted to the pump body, not like the "A" or "B" Pumps. Someone told me it is a "Crager" style pump. I don't know if that is correct but I do know its different. Also the impeller has four LARGE vanes. Anyhow, I think I have the problem solved. Thanks everyone for you input.
